BEYOND THE BOUNDARIES: ‘GLOBAL ROLE OF PHARMACIST FOR SUSTAINABLE HEALTH’

The THEME for both PHARMEX and PHARMATRADE 2009...

It’s convocation week again!! In conjunction with the Convocation Week and Open Day of USM, the USM Pharmacy Students’ Association had once again carried out two big projects, that are, PHARMEX and PHARMATRADE...

Pharmex

A few booths set up by the committee members…

Pameran Farmasi Ekspo (PHARMEX) was held from 12 August to 16 August 2009 during the convocation week. The exhibition was located at the Tapak Pameran Konvokesyen USM, close to the Sg. Dua entrance and carried out each day from 9am to 5pm.

It’s an exhibition held to provide information to the visitors about healthcare, the correct way of using medicines, different types of herbal and traditional medicines, selected pharmaceutical technologies, and much more pharmacy-related info!

The booths were set up by the committee members the night before the exhibition. Everyone gave their best effort to ensure the booths looked attractive and inviting.

Wow! All are hard at work!

12 departments worked together to carry out this project!!

The materials exhibited can be divided into 7 categories, which are, clinical pharmacy, herbal pharmacy and traditional medicine, pharmaceutical technology, drugs education, veterinary pharmacy, public health, as well as research and development in pharmacy.

The objectives of the project was to create public awareness towards healthcare, give the latest information about medicines, show the role of pharmacists, build a good relationship between pharmacists and public, and give exposure on health products.

The visitors could have their blood pressure and body fat mass checked when they visited the clinical pharmacy booth!!

Whenever there were visitors to the booths, the students who were on duty would explain the materials to the best of their ability. Besides that, there were also some quizzes that the visitors could participate in and gain some knowledge, though the main attractant were the prizes!

The project was carried out successfully and we hope that this project will carry on so that more people will be benefit from it.

Some more nice photos of the booths…

Pharmatrade

PHARMATRADE was also held during the convocation week. It is a project that is based on selling and marketing health products. The activity started from 12 August 2009. It was located at Tapak Jualan Ekspo and is open from 9:30 am to 9:30 pm.

The products sold there include medicines, healthcare products, cosmetics, and herbal products.

The objectives of the project were to educate the pharmacy students about managing a business, improve their communication skills and increase their confidence. All this was done to ensure that pharmacy students will be all-rounders when it comes to personal development.

The students, who were on duty, were asked to wear the T-shirt specially for this activity.

Meetings were held to ensure that the activities could be carried out smoothly.

The students on duty will promote the products and explain the usage of the products to the buyers.

Come, come and buy!! Very good one!!

<<
It’s really enjoyable!!!

There were many people visiting the booth at night as well!!

This is really a good project to help the pharmacy students get involved in selling health products and be able to communicate well with the customers. Thus, it is hoped that the activities will carry on in future.

“A Better Care, A Healthier Share” - Orientation Week

On 9 - 19 July 2009, the Pharmacy Students’ Association of USM organized an orientation week to welcome the first year pharmacy students into the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences for the 2009/2010 academic session. During the orientation week, the new students had great opportunities to know more about School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, their lecturers, the supporting staff and their seniors. This activity ensured that the incoming juniors can adapt to their new environment and be able to succeed in both academic and non-academic fields.

Ice Breaking
The first programme for the orientation week was the ice-breaking session, which was held on 9 July 2009 (5 - 6 pm) at the foyer of DK X and Y. The activities on that day included grouping and introducing the facilitators to each group. The first year students were divided into 10 groups and a leader was chosen by each group. The groups were then assigned the task of choosing a creative group name and creating their cheers.

Group discussion between group members to choose a leader and think of a creative group name and cheers.

S & J Night
Next, on 13 July 2009 (8-11.30pm), the ‘Senior and Junior Night’ was carried out in DK X and DK Y. All the first year students were given his or her direct senior and they had to search for their senior in DK Y based on the clues given. On that night, the seniors met with their direct juniors and had a good time getting to know each other.

Explorace
On 18 July 2009 (2.00am-5.30pm), an exciting programme was held: the EXPLORACE!!! Each group had to run around the USM grounds (stadium, DTSP, Dewan Budaya, etc) in their bid to become the winner by completing the tasks given by seniors at each station.

GO! GO! GO! Each group were pumped up to start their explorace around USM!

Many games were set up at each station to test their physical strength and intelligence. The explorace also helped to strengthen the relationship among the first year students and with their seniors.

Closing Ceremony

Lastly, on 19 July 2009 (8pm-11pm), there was a closing ceremony for the orientation week, held in DK U. Many interesting shows were performed by each group, such as singing, acting, dancing, and fashion shows. Everyone enjoyed themselves and had a great time!
