Malaysian Cultural Day is an annual cultural event organized by Persatuan Sains Farmasi and was carried out at Cahaya Complex (KOMCA) of the main campus of Universiti Sains Malaysia on 19th October 2013 (Saturday). 62 young and enthusiastic pharmacy students were actively involved as committee members to organize this event. And the event itself was opened to be participated by all USM students in order to understand our rich and unique culture. The total amount of visitors and participants of this event was estimated at around 250 people.

The whole event is divided into three main sessions:
  • Cultural Exhibition     (4:00pm – 7:00pm)

Many amazing culture-related mini games were conducted by the department of activities and many interesting small prizes were prepared for the visitors who won those mini games. Besides mini games, some traditional food such as ‘

Great variety of food was prepared to impress the taste buds of everyone. Tolerance and respect among different religions was embodied through the preparation of many vegetarian food for all the vegetarian guests.

Malaysian Cultural Day event was brought to the highest climax when it proceeded into the best part of the day: the Cultural Peformance! The performance on that night includes: multicultural dance presented by Adikarma (a well-known traditional dance group of USM), Chinese traditional fan dance by dancers from Chinese Association of USM, poem recitation, Indian dance,
wayang kulit, pantang larang sketch and the unique Saban song presentation. For your information, the poem recitation, Indian dance, wayang kulit, sketch and song presentation are all prepared by the talented USM pharmacy student. The event was ended at about 11pm.

The main concept of this multicultural based event is to reveal the uniqueness and colorfulness of Malaysian multiracial and multicultural background to the general public in USM main campus. With this concept, this event was expected to achieve a primary goal that the great diversity of Malaysian culture can be highly appreciated and hence the relationship between difference ethnics can also be strongly enhanced. This event has also successfully provided a platform to build and strengthen the ‘chemical bonds’ between students, lecturers and staffs of the School of Pharmaceutical Science, USM.
